Slides are captivating objects that evoke a sense of nostalgia and a bygone era. Discovering a slide, whether from an old house or a flea market, always carries the feeling of unearthing something hidden and mysterious. They are nothing more than images, yet the way they appear, their support, their physicality, make us perceiving them differently; especially in an age saturated with fleeting, intangible visuals. Thus, slides are no longer just images, but
image-objects that allow the photographic content to stand out before our eyes.
This project aims to exploit this power, the infatuation these objects provoke in the viewer, to deceive them: real slides will not be exhibited, but objects that resemble them so closely that they appear to be real slides. In this way, by exploiting the form, the aim is to create interest in the content, showing something different from what it seems. Using OpenAI’s DALL-E, photorealistic images of places and moments were crafted to look as authentic as possible, while subtle details hint at their artificial origins upon closer inspection.
The intention is to encourage reflection on our contemporary relationship with images:
their evolution, how their use shapes our perception, and how easily they can mislead us.
In the past two years alone, more photos have been taken than in the entire history of photography, and on Instagram, roughly 95 million photos and videos are uploaded daily. Our lives are inundated with images, many of which are fabricated or manipulated, blurring the line between what is real and what is not.
